This service includes our professional services and all administration. We provide local collection and care of your loved one, a simple coffin,  and suitable transportation to a private non attended cremation. We will also collect the ashes  on your behalf should you wish.

The 'Simplest'  option provides everything needed. Local collection of your loved one, a simple coffin, motor Hearse, experienced Funeral Director and  staff to meet you at the local crematorium or cemetery.

We will book an appropriate person to lead the service for you, as well as liaising with all third parties on your behalf, for example florists and printers.

This is for a 9.00am or 9.30am half hour service to keep costs to a minimum. If you choose a premium time the price increase to£1895

Our Traditional Funeral is a complete bespoke service.

The  price includes our professional service, collection of your loved one, a motor hearse, an experienced Funeral Director and adequate staff on the day. 

You can choose to leave from a home address, attend a church service, order following limousines and be returned home or to a wake location.

A wide range of coffins  are available.

We suggest an informal meeting to discuss your needs. We will provide a no obligation full quotation on request

Hergest & Cavell own a Jaguar fleet and while the cost of the motor hearse is included in the funeral price, following limousines are charged at £215 each.

Horse Drawn Hearses are still available and prices start at £850 (2 horse carriage)

There are many other specialist vehicles available such as VW Hearses, Tractors, Flat-bed trucks, Land Rovers and Motorcycles. P.O.A

We are able to source different make vehicles, such as Rolls Royce and Vintage Hearses. Ask for details.

The care of your loved one is as important to us as the funeral day itself.

We make a charge for the care & preparation of your loved one, including professional embalming if needed.

Your loved one may be dressed in their own clothes or  a simple white gown is provided within our charges.

There may be circumstances when specialist embalming may need to be carried out. We will discuss this with you and any further charges incurred.

There is no charge for visiting your loved one in our chapel of rest.

We are able to offer a full range of traditional coffins in  wood effect, wood veneer and solid wood to suit all budgets.

We also provide many eco and environmentally friendly options including, wicker, banana leaf, bamboo and even wool.

In addition, you many wish to select a picture coffin for a more personalised choice or create a more decorative design. 

There are various other specialist options such as religious ornamental coffins and American Style caskets.

Doctors Fees - There is a charge for statutory documentation for cremation.  Charged at £164 (Currrently  £82 due to COVID-19) There is no fee if burial is chosen, or if HM Coroner issues the certificate for cremation 

Minister/Celebrant Fees 

Average costs for someone to lead service is £225. Services in Church  will attract a higher fee payable to the church.

Other items

The funeral  can be embellished with items such as flowers, memory pins, visual tributes, pipers, horse drawn hearses, urns etc.

Local authority cemeteries are provided for residents of the borough. If the deceased did not live in the area, the fees are generally doubled and sometimes tripled.

Gravesham Borough Council

Gravesend Cemetery is only open for burials in existing graves. All new burials are at Northfleet Cemetery (Springhead Road)
